When we signed up with Nationwide we prayed that our modification would be over quickly, not only to save some of the $400 monthly fees, but just to have peace of mind. It took 7 months. Before we signed up we were told repeatedly that our lender was one they worked with on a regular basis - it wasn't. We were told we qualified for certain programs that would make this a breeze - we didn't.
I always had to initiate communication with Nationwide, sometimes leaving 3 messages before someone would call me back a week later. It was like nothing was being done unless I called them and then it was "let me call your mortgage company, see what's going on and call you back", (days later).
We finally got a modification offer but I didn't understand all of the terms, like why I had to pay money up front or why it was only going to lower my monthly payment $140. 3 weeks later I am still waiting for Sue at Nationwide to call me back to explain it to me and tell me if I should accept this offer or if she will try to negotiate a better deal. As I was told by our lender that this was time sensitive (4 weeks ago) I had to negotiate and make the deal myself 2 weeks ago. Nationwide does not even know that it's done.
As much as I, myself have dealt with our lender during this process, I feel like all Nationwide did was fax some papers, that I actually did the modification myself and when it came down to the wire, they were not there for me.
Right now I am waiting on a phone call (surprise) from a supervisor that was promised 1 1/2 hours ago, because I am going to try to get some of my money back.
