SMS TEXT SCAM
On 2/22/2011, Mobizzo charged 2-phones on my Verizon account $9.99 for SMS 66249 texts. These texts were completely unsolicited and not replied to. In fact, on one phone the text wasn't even opened until the screen announcement from Mobizzo thanking me for subscribing was closed. According to SMSWatchdog.com and textcomplaints.com there were others with similar experiences during February 2011. I resolved the charges with Verizon (as I think most people would) who also suggested I send "stop" to the SMS number - which resolves getting further texts. I credit Mobizzo for engaging in a fairly safe SCAM with a great potential for return on investment: 1. Lots of people will pay their several-hundred dollar Verizon bill without noticing the charges. 2. People complain to Verizon (not Mobizzo)about the extra charges. 3. Even if Mobizzo has to credit Verizon 98% of the time, they're still getting paid $20 for every 100 sleezy texts they send out. 4. Since most people resolve the issue with Verizon, there's low risk Mobizzo's B+ BBB rating will slide.
Verizon was kind enough to put a "premium text block" on all my account phone numbers. This will stop these kinds of scams, but now I cannot text to any 5-digit #'s.

We regret that you had a bad experience with Mobizzo. It is certainly not our intention to scam anyone. Thousands of people play our daily quiz games each month and we've given away a large number of exciting prizes including flat screen TVs, digital cameras and Kindle wireless reading devices, to our subscribers. Our double opt-in sign up and one step cancellation processes are based on widely accepted industry standards and we have a team of dedicated staffers who work to quickly resolve any customer issues. We understand that this type of service is not for everyone, but we want to make sure you know that our text messages are not sent unless they are requested and we do not subscribe anyone without their prior consent.
